maraṇāntāni vairāṇi nirvṛttaṁ naḥ prayojanam |
kriyatāmasya saṁskāro mamāpyeṣa yathā tava ||99-39||
—śrīmadvālmīkirāmayaṇe yuddhakāṇḍaḥ
Enmity ends with death; it is of no use to desist
Perform his last rites; He’s [now] mine (my brother) as is yours.

(Lord Śri Rāma said this to Vibhīshaṇa on the battle field)

Google for “maranantani vairani” and you get some hits from sanskritdocuments page, where it is given as ‘naH prayojanam’. I am not too sure. Do you have a printed copy of Ramayana (Gorakhpur Press)? I have one in Chennai, which I could get checked…

    Thanks for pointing out.

Yes, Rama says this to Vibhishana, when Vibhishana resists from doing the last rites for his sinner brother.

I suppose the translation of the first part of the shloka can be: From death the purpose of our this enmity is finished.

I would think मरणान्तानि is not a सन्धि, but a समास, in which case, the meaning would differ. kind of – मरणॆ अन्तं — मरणान्तम् ,तानि मरणान्तानि — those which end in (with) death, i.e. enmity ends with death.
