जननी जन्मभूमिश्च जाह्नवी च जनार्दनः।
जनकः पञ्चमश्चैव जकाराः पञ्च दुर्लभाः॥
jananī janmabhūmiśca jāhnavī ca janārdanaḥ |
janakaḥ pañcamaścaiva jakārāḥ pañca durlabhāḥ ||
Mother, motherland, the Ganges, Lord Janardana;
And fifthly, Father, are five extraordinary things (that begin with ‘ja’!)

You had written the famous shloka ‘Janani Janmabhoomischa…., in an old post in your earlier site ‘Subhashitam’.
Can you give the shloka number and the edition of Ramayana where this occurs? We were doing a research on this, and nothing came up…

We had it in school, in one of our textbooks — even I haven’t been able to find the right edition of ramayana — now, I don’t think it occurs in Valmiki Ramayana. Let me know if you find something; I shall do the same!
