क्षणे नष्टे कुतो विद्या

क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थञ्च साधयेत्।
क्षणे नष्टे कुतो विद्या कणे नष्टे कुतो धनम्॥
kṣaṇaśaḥ kaṇaśaścaiva vidyāmarthañca sādhayet|
kṣaṇe naṣṭe kuto vidyā kaṇe naṣṭe kuto dhanam||
Every moment one should learn and from every bit one should earn.
If a moment is wasted, where is knowledge [acquired] and if even a bit is wasted, where is wealth.

अनर्थाश्चार्थरूपेण

अनर्थाश्चार्थरूपेण अर्थाश्चानर्थरूपतः।
अर्थायैव हि केषाञ्चिद् धननाशो भवत्युत॥
anarthāścārtharūpeṇa arthāścānartharūpataḥ|
arthāyaiva hi keṣāñcid dhananāśo bhavatyuta||
Loss appears in the form of profit, and profit in the form of loss;
The loss of property, for some [people], proves to be a profit!

स्वजनोऽपि शत्रुः

अदृष्टपूर्वा बहवः सहायाः सर्वे पदस्थस्य भवन्ति वश्याः।
अर्थाद्विहीनस्य पदच्युतस्य भवन्ति काले स्वजनोऽपि शत्रुः॥
adṛṣṭapūrvā bahavaḥ sahāyāḥ sarve padasthasya bhavanti vaśyāḥ|
arthādvihīnasya padacyutasya bhavanti kāle svajano’pi śatruḥ||
When a man is powerful and prosperous, friends gather around him from all directions;
If he is poor and out of work, then even his own people turn foes in the time of need.
