मानमेवाभिरक्षतु

प्राणञ्चापि परित्यज्य मानमेवाभिरक्षतु।
अनित्यो भवति प्राणो मानमाचन्द्रतारकम्‌॥
prāṇañcāpi parityajya mānamevābhirakṣatu |
anityo bhavati prāṇo mānamācandratārakam ||
Even at the cost of one’s life one should preserve his honour, as
life is temporary and honour is ever lasting as the moon and stars.

कीर्तिर्यस्य स जीवति

चलच्चित्तं चलो वित्तं चलज्जीवन यौवनम्‌।
चलाचलमिदं सर्वं कीर्तिर्यस्य स जीवति॥
calaccittaṁ calo vittaṁ calajjīvana yauvanam |
calācalamidaṁ sarvaṁ kīrtiryasya sa jīvati ||
Mind is unstable, wealth is transitory, life and youth are temporary.
[Where] everything is transitory/unstable, he who has acquired name/fame lives [forever].

कीर्तिर्यस्य स जीवति

स जीवति यशो यस्य कीर्तिर्यस्य स जीवति।
अयशोऽकीर्तिसंयुक्तः जीवन्नपि मृतोपमः॥
sa jīvati yaśo yasya kīrtiryasya sa jīvati|
ayaśo'kīrtisaṁyuktaḥ jīvannapi mṛtopamaḥ||
"He lives [in the true sense], whose fame and reputation are existent in the world.
One whose infamy and slander is spread in the world, though alive, is as good as dead."
