परोपकाराय सतां विभूतयः

पिबन्ति नद्यः स्वयमेव नाम्भः स्वयं न खादन्ति फलानि वृक्षाः।
नादन्ति स्वस्यं खलु वारिवाहाः परोपकाराय सतां विभूतयः॥
pibanti nadyaḥ svayameva nāmbhaḥ svayaṁ na khādanti phalāni vṛkṣāḥ|
nādanti svasyaṁ khalu vārivāhāḥ paropakārāya satāṁ vibhūtayaḥ||
The rivers don’t drink their waters themselves; the trees don’t eat their own fruits.
The clouds do not eat the crops they have watered; in the same way, the wealth of the good people are for helping others (they don’t consume their own wealth)

वृक्षाः सत्पुरुषा इव

छायामन्यस्य कुर्वन्ति तिष्ठन्ति स्वयमातपे।
फलान्यपि परार्थाय वृक्षाः सत्पुरुषा इव॥
chāyāmanyasya kurvanti tiṣṭhanti svayamātape|
phalānyapi parārthāya vṛkṣāḥ satpuruṣā iva||
Trees are like good people. They themselves stand in the heat and make shade for the others. Their fruits are also for the benefit of the others.

सदयं हृदयं यस्य

सदयं हृदयं यस्य भाषितं सत्यभूषितम्।
कायः परहिते यस्य कलिस्तस्य करोति किम्॥
sadayaṁ hṛdayaṁ yasya bhāṣitaṁ satyabhūṣitam|
kāyaḥ parahite yasya kalistasya karoti kim||
[For those] whose heart is full of compassion, whose speech is adorned with the Truth, whose body is for the service of others, what can Kali (yuga) do to them?

श्रोत्रं श्रुतेनैव

श्रोत्रं श्रुतेनैव न कुण्डलेन दानेन पाणिर्न तु कङ्कणेन।
विभाति कायः करुणापराणां परोपकारैर्न तु चन्दनेन॥
śrotraṁ śrutenaiva na kuṇḍalena dānena pāṇirna tu kaṅkaṇena|
vibhāti kāyaḥ karuṇāparāṇāṁ paropakārairna tu candanena||

"Ears are [adorned] by listening to scriptures, not by earrings; hands are [adorned] by charity, not by bracelets. Similarly, the body is adorned by doing good to others and not by [smearing] sandalwood."

परोपकारार्थमिदम् शरीरम्

परोपकाराय फलन्ति वृक्षाः परोपकाराय वहन्ति नद्यः।
परोपकाराय दुहन्ति गावः परोपकारार्थमिदम् शरीरम्॥
paropakārāya phalanti vṛkṣāḥ paropakārāya vahanti nadyaḥ|
paropakārāya duhanti gāvaḥ paropakārārthamidam śarīram||

"Trees give fruits for others; Rivers [too] flow for [the benefit of] others;
Cows give milk for helping others; [Similarly] this body of ours is also for helping others."

अष्टादशपुराणेषु व्यासस्य वचनद्वयम्।
परोपकारं पुण्याय पापाय परपीडनम्॥
aṣṭādaśapurāṇeṣu vyāsasya vacanadvayam|
paropakāraṁ puṇyāya pāpāya parapīḍanam||
