साधोः मनो नायाति विक्रियाम्

साधोः प्रकोपितस्यापि मनो नायाति विक्रियाम्।
न हि तापयितुं शक्यं सागराम्भस्तृणोल्कया॥
sādhoḥ prakopitasyāpi mano nāyāti vikriyām|
na hi tāpayituṁ śakyaṁ sāgarāmbhastṛṇolkayā||
Even when instigated by others, the mind of a pious person never hesitates [to take the right decision].
It is not possible to heat the water of ocean by a torch of dried grass.

    A couple of questions – does the English translation follow line-by-line?
    Line: “sādhoḥ prakopitasyāpi mano nāyāti vikriyām|”
    Translation: “Even when instigated by others, the mind of a pious person never hesitates [to take the right decision].”
    Line: “na hi tāpayituṁ śakyaṁ sāgarāmbhastṛṇolkayā||”
    Translation: “It is not possible to heat the water of ocean by a torch of dried grass.”

    Secondly, are the characters | and || used only to represent line breaks?

      Yes, that’s correct. The English translation is line-by-line. At times, I also try to retain phrases, which leads to rather poorly formed English sentences🙂.
      The characters | and || indeed represent line breaks — the first marks the end of the first half of a verse, and the || indicates the end of the complete verse.
