यो यच्छ्रद्धः स एव सः

सत्त्वानुरूपा सर्वस्य श्रद्धा भवति भारत।
श्रद्धामयोऽयं पुरुषो यो यच्छ्रद्धः स एव सः॥१७-३॥

sattvānurūpā sarvasya śraddhā bhavati bhārata|
śraddhāmayo'yaṁ puruṣo yo yacchraddhaḥ sa eva saḥ||17-3||

"The faith of all men conforms to their mental constitution, Arjuna.
The man consists of faith; whatever the nature of his faith, he is verily that."

सर्वदेवनमस्कारः केशवं प्रतिगच्छति

आकाशात्पतितं तोयं यथा गच्छति सागरम्।
सर्वदेवनमस्कारः केशवं प्रतिगच्छति॥
ākāśātpatitaṁ toyaṁ yathā gacchati sāgaram|
sarvadevanamaskāraḥ keśavaṁ pratigacchati||
"Just as all the water fallen from the sky go towards (into) the sea,
Salutations offered to all Gods go unto Keshava!"

भगवान् श्री कृष्णः अपि भगवद्गीतायाम् उक्तवान् —
येऽप्यन्यदेवता भक्ता यजन्ते श्रद्धयान्विताः।
तेऽपि मामेव कौन्तेय यजन्त्यविधिपूर्वकम्॥९-२३॥
bhagavān śrī kṛṣṇaḥ api bhagavadgītāyām uktavān —
ye'pyanyadevatā bhaktā yajante śraddhayānvitāḥ|
te'pi māmeva kaunteya yajantyavidhipūrvakam||9-23||
"Even those devotees, who, endowed with faith worship other Gods,
worship Me alone, Arjuna, though with a mistaken approach."

संशयात्मा विनश्यति

अज्ञश्चाश्रद्धधानश्च संशयात्मा विनश्यति।
नायं लोकोऽस्ति न परो न सुखं संशयात्मनः॥
— भगवद्गीता ४-४०
ajñaścāśraddhadhānaśca saṁśayātmā vinaśyati|
nāyaṁ loko'sti na paro na sukhaṁ saṁśayātmanaḥ||
— bhagavadgītā 4-40

He who lacks discrimination, is devoid of faith, and is at the same time possessed by doubt is lost from spiritual path.
For the doubting soul there is neither this world nor the world beyond, nor even happiness.

परित्राणाय साधूनाम्

परित्राणाय साधूनाम् विनाशाय च दुष्कृताम्।
धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय संभवामि युगे युगे॥
— भगवद्गीता ४-७
paritrāṇāya sādhūnām vināśāya ca duṣkṛtām|
dharmasaṁsthāpanārthāya saṁbhavāmi yuge yuge||
— bhagavadgītā 4-7
"For the protection of the virtuous, for the extirpation of evil-doers,
And for establishing righteousness on a firm footing, I am born from age to age."

भगवद्गीता द्वादशोऽध्यायः — केचित् श्लोकाः

मय्येव मन आधत्स्व मयि बुद्धिं निवेशय।
निवसिष्यसि मय्येव अत ऊर्ध्वं न संश्यः॥१२-८॥
mayyeva mana ādhatsva mayi buddhiṁ niveśaya|
nivasiṣyasi mayyeva ata ūrdhvaṁ na saṁśyaḥ||12-8||

"Fix your mind on Me, and establish your intellect in Me alone;
Thereafter you will abide solely in Me. There is no doubt about it."

अथ चित्तम् समाधातुं न शक्नोषि मयि स्थिरम्।
अभ्यासयोगेन ततो मामिच्छप्तुम् धनञ्जय॥१२-९॥
atha cittam samādhātuṁ na śaknoṣi mayi sthiram|
abhyāsayogena tato māmicchaptum dhanañjaya||12-9||

"If you can not steadily fix the mind on Me, Arjuna;
Then seek to attain Me through the yoga of repeated practice."

अभ्यासेऽप्यसमर्थोऽसि मत्कर्म परमो भव।
मदर्थमपि कर्माणि कुर्वन् सिद्धिमवाप्स्यसि॥१२-१०॥
abhyāse'pyasamartho'si matkarma paramo bhava|
madarthamapi karmāṇi kurvan siddhimavāpsyasi||12-10||

"If you are unequal even to the pursuit of such practice, be intent to work for Me;
you shall attain perfection (in the shape of My realization) even by performing actions for My sake."

अथेतदप्यशक्तोऽसि कर्तुम् मद्योगमाश्रितः।
सर्वकर्मफलत्यागम् ततः कुरु यतात्मावान्॥१२-११॥
athetadapyaśakto'si kartum madyogamāśritaḥ|
sarvakarmaphalatyāgam tataḥ kuru yatātmāvān||12-11||

"If, taking recourse to the yoga of My realization, you are unable even to do this;
Then, subduing your mind and intellect etc. relinquish the fruit of all actions."

श्रेयो हि ज्ञानमभ्यासाज्ज्ञानाद्‌ध्यानम् विशिष्यते।
ध्यनात्कर्मफलत्यागस्त्यागाच्छन्तिरनन्तरम्॥१२-१२॥
śreyo hi jñānamabhyāsājjñāanāddhyānam viśiṣyate|
dhyanātkarmaphalatyāgastyāgācchantiranantaram||12-12||

"Knowledge is better than practice ( without discernment ), meditation on God is superior to Knowledge, and renunciation of fruit of actions is even superior to meditation; for peace immediately follows from renunciation. "

श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः

श्रेयान्स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात्स्वनुष्ठितात्।
स्वभावनियतं कर्म कुर्वन्नाप्नोति किल्बिषम्॥
— भगवद्गीता १८-४७
śreyānsvadharmo viguṇaḥ paradharmātsvanuṣṭhitāt|
svabhāvaniyataṁ karma kurvannāpnoti kilbiṣam||
— bhagavadgītā 18-47

Better is one's own duty, though devoid-of-merit, than the duty of another well performed;
For performing the duty ordained by his own nature man does not incur sin.

न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशम् पवित्रमिह विद्यते

न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशम् पवित्रमिह विद्यते।
तत्स्वयं योगसंसिद्धिः कालेनात्मनि विन्दति॥

na hi jñānena sadṛśam pavitramiha vidyate|
tatsvayaṁ yogasaṁsiddhiḥ kālenātmani vindati||
— bhagavadgītā 4-38

"On earth, there is no purifier as great as knowledge;
He who has attained purity of heart through a prolonged practice of karmayoga automatically sees the light of truth in the self in course of time."
