You cannot even notice a hint of a drop of water fallen on hot iron.
The same drop shines like a pearl on a lotus leaf. And when the drop of water, under the
‘swati’ nakShatra, falls inside a sea shell, it becomes a pearl.
Usually, excellent, medium and bad states (of a person) are [all] dependent on company.

Sandalwood is pleasant in this world, the moon is more pleasant than sandalwood.
But, more than moon and sandalwood, the company of good people is even more pleasant!

Deer follow the company of deer, cows follow cows, horses follow horses
Fools follow fools, and wise people go after wise; [good] friendship develops among those who have similar character.

सतां हि दर्शनं पुण्यम्

The sight of good people is by itself holy since they are the source of pious and sacred knowledge. While the other 'tirthas' or holy places give their effects after time (death?), acquaintance with the good and righteous pays off immediately

"The [holy river] Ganga cleanses sins [on dipping in it], the moon, by her pleasant and cold beams removes heat, the divine tree kalpataru (that grants every wish) removes any needs or scarcities. [But] the great saints and virtuous people simulataneously destroy the sins, pains and deficiencies [of all those who associate with them]. "

Enhances prestige, expiates the sins;
Comforts the conscience, spreads fame in all directions.
Say! what [good] is there which the company of good does not bring to men!"
