यस्तं द्वेष्टि स मां द्वेष्टि यस्तं चानु स मामनु

श्रीकृष्ण उवाच—
न हि दारा न मित्राणि ज्ञातयो न च बान्धवाः।
कश्चिदन्यः प्रियतरः कुन्तीपुत्रान्ममार्जुनात्॥२९॥
अनर्जुनमिमं लोकं मुहूर्तमपि दारुक।
उदीक्षितुं न शक्तोऽहं भविता न च तत्तथा॥३०॥
अहं विजित्य तान्सर्वान्सहसा सहयद्विपान्।
अर्जुनार्थे हनिष्यामि सकर्णान्ससुयोधनान्॥३१॥
श्वो निरीक्षन्तु मे वीर्यं त्रयो लोका महाहवे।
धनञ्जयार्थे समरे पराक्रान्तस्य दारुक॥३२॥
श्वो नरेन्द्रसहस्राणि राजपुत्रशतानि च।
साश्वद्विपरथान्याजौ विद्रविष्यामि दारुक॥३३॥
श्वस्तां चक्रप्रमथितां द्रक्ष्यसे नृपवाहिनीम्।
मया क्रुद्धेन समरे पाण्डवार्थे निपातिताम्॥३४॥
श्वः सदेवाः सगन्धर्वाः पिशाचोरगराक्षसाः।
ज्ञास्यन्ति लोकाः सर्वे मां सुहृदं सव्यसाचिनः॥३५॥
यस्तं द्वेष्टि स मां द्वेष्टि यस्तं चानु स मामनु।
इति सङ्कल्प्यतां बुद्ध्या शरीरार्धं ममार्जुनः॥३६॥
यथा त्वं मे प्रभातायामस्यां निशि रथोत्तमम्।
कल्पयित्वा यथाशास्त्रमादाय व्रज संयतः॥३७॥
गदां कौमोदकीं दिव्यां शक्तिं चक्रं धनुः शरान्।
आरोप्य वै रथे सूत सर्वोपकरणानि च॥३८॥
स्थानं च कल्पयित्वाऽथ रथोपस्थे ध्वजस्य मे।
वैनतेयस्य वीरस्य समरे रथशोभिनः॥३९॥
छत्रं जाम्बूनदैर्जालैरर्कज्वलनसप्रभैः॥
विश्वकर्मकृतैर्दिव्यैरश्वानपि विभूषय॥४०॥
बलाहकं मेघपुष्पं शैब्यं सुग्रीवमेव च।
युक्त्वा वाजिवरांस्तत्र कवची तिष्ठ दारुक॥४१॥
पाञ्चजन्यस्य निर्घोषं पर्जन्यनिनदोपमम्।
श्रुत्वा च भैरवं नादमुपेयास्त्वं जवेन माम्॥४२॥
एकाह्नाऽहममर्षं च सर्वदुःखानि चैव ह।
भ्रातुः पैतृष्वसेयस्य व्यपनेष्यामि दारुक॥४३॥
सर्वोपायैर्यतिष्यामि यथा बीभत्सुराहवे।
पश्यतां धार्तराष्ट्राणां हनिष्यति जयद्रथम्॥४४॥
यस्ययस्य च बीभत्सुर्वधे यत्नं करिष्यति।
आशंसेऽहं रणे तन्तं तत्रतत्र हनिष्यति॥४५॥
दारुक उवाच—
जय एव ध्रुवस्तस्य कुत एव पराजयः।
यस्य त्वं पुरुषव्याघ्र सारथ्यमुपजग्मिवान्॥४६॥
एवं चैतत्करिष्यामि यथा मामनुभाषसे।
सुप्रभातामिमां रात्रिं जयाय विजयस्य हि॥॥४७॥
इति श्रीमन्महाभारते द्रोणपर्वणि प्रतिज्ञापर्वणि एकोनाशीतितमोऽध्यायः॥ ७९॥

śvaḥ sadevāḥ sagandharvāḥ piśācoragarākṣasāḥ.
jñāsyanti lokāḥ sarve māṃ suhṛdaṃ savyasācinaḥ..35..
yastaṃ dveṣṭi sa māṃ dveṣṭi yastaṃ cānu sa māmanu.
iti saṅkalpyatāṃ buddhyā śarīrārdhaṃ mamārjunaḥ..36..
yathā tvaṃ me prabhātāyāmasyāṃ niśi rathottamam.
kalpayitvā yathāśāstramādāya vraja saṃyataḥ..37..
gadāṃ kaumodakīṃ divyāṃ śaktiṃ cakraṃ dhanuḥ śarān.
āropya vai rathe sūta sarvopakaraṇāni ca..38..
sthānaṃ ca kalpayitvā’tha rathopasthe dhvajasya me.
vainateyasya vīrasya samare rathaśobhinaḥ..39..
chatraṃ jāmbūnadairjālairarkajvalanasaprabhaiḥ..
viśvakarmakṛtairdivyairaśvānapi vibhūṣaya..40..
balāhakaṃ meghapuṣpaṃ śaibyaṃ sugrīvameva ca.
yuktvā vājivarāṃstatra kavacī tiṣṭha dāruka..41..
pāñcajanyasya nirghoṣaṃ parjanyaninadopamam.
śrutvā ca bhairavaṃ nādamupeyāstvaṃ javena mām..42..
ekāhnā’hamamarṣaṃ ca sarvaduḥkhāni caiva ha.
bhrātuḥ paitṛṣvaseyasya vyapaneṣyāmi dāruka..43..
sarvopāyairyatiṣyāmi yathā bībhatsurāhave.
paśyatāṃ dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ haniṣyati jayadratham..44..
yasyayasya ca bībhatsurvadhe yatnaṃ kariṣyati.
āśaṃse’haṃ raṇe tantaṃ tatratatra haniṣyati..45..
dāruka uvāca.
jaya eva dhruvastasya kuta eva parājayaḥ.
yasya tvaṃ puruṣavyāghra sārathyamupajagmivān..46..
evaṃ caitatkariṣyāmi yathā māmanubhāṣase.
suprabhātāmimāṃ rātriṃ jayāya vijayasya hi….47..

iti śrīmanmahābhārate droṇaparvaṇi pratijñāparvaṇi
ekonāśītitamo’dhyāyaḥ.. 79..

My wives, my kinsmen, my relatives, none amongst these is dearer to me than Arjuna. O Daruka, I shall not be able to cast my eyes, even for a single moment, on the earth bereft of Arjuna. I tell thee, the earth shall not be reft to Arjuna. Myself vanquishing them all with their steeds and elephants by putting forth my strength for the sake of Arjuna, I will slay them with Karna and Suyodhana. Let the three worlds tomorrow behold my prowess in great battle, when I put forth my valour, O Daruka, for Dhananjaya’s sake. Tomorrow, thousands of kings and hundreds of princes, with their steeds and cars and elephants, will, O Daruka, fly away from battle. Thou shalt tomorrow, O Daruka, behold that army of kings overthrown and crushed with my discus, by myself in wrath for the sake of the son of Pandu. Tomorrow, the (three) worlds with the gods, the Gandharvas, the Pisachas, the Snakes, and the Rakshasas, will know me as a (true) friend of Savyasachin. He that hateth him, hateth me. He that followeth him, followeth me. Thou hast intelligence. Know that Arjuna is half of myself. When morning comes after the expiry of this night, thou, O Daruka, equipping my excellent car according to the rules of military science, must bring it and follow me with it carefully, placing on it my celestial mace called Kaumodaki, my dart and discus, bow and arrows, and every other thing necessary. O Suta, making room on the terrace of my car for my standard and for the heroic Garuda thereon, that adorns my umbrella, and yoking thereto my foremost of steeds named Valahaka and Meghapushpa and Saivya and Sugriva, having cased them in golden mail of the splendour of the sun and fire, and thyself putting on thy armour, stay on it carefully. Upon hearing the loud and terrible blast of my conch Panchajanya emitting the shrill Rishava note, thou wilt come quickly to me. In the course of a single day, O Daruka, I shall dispel the wrath and the diverse woes of my cousin, the son of my paternal aunt. By every means shall I strive so that Vibhatsu in battle may slay Jayadratha in the very sight of the Dhartarashtras. O charioteer, I tell thee that Vibhatsu will certainly succeed in slaying all these for whose slaughter he will strive.’

“Daruka said, ‘He is certain to have victory whose charioteership, O tiger among men, hath been taken by thee. Whence, indeed, can defeat come to him? As regards myself, I will do that which thou hast commanded me to do. This night will bring (on its train) the auspicious morn for Arjuna’s victory.'”

Everytime I read this, I can’t stop thinking about the bond between Krishna and Arjuna, and the beauty of their friendship—so much so, Krishna asks this as His only boon from Indra after Khaandava-dahanam!

वासुदेवोऽपि जग्राह प्रीतिं पार्थेन शाश्वतीम्।
ददौ सुरपतिश्चैव वरं कृष्णाय धीमते॥१-२६०-१३॥

vāsudevo’pi jagrāha prītiṃ pārthena śāśvatīm.
dadau surapatiścaiva varaṃ kṛṣṇāya dhīmate..1-260-13..

Then Vasudeva asked that his friendship with Arjuna might be eternal. The chief of the celestials granted unto the intelligent Krishna the boon he desired.
